Fancy Thanks (and photos)!

February 4, 2011

Hey Prancers!

Thank you once again for yet another super fagtastic Prance!!! Unsurprisingly, there was a ridiculous amount of outstanding get-ups. It had to be the busiest Prance yet — and we just have so many “thank you’s” to dish out. Where do we begin? Major thanks to all the amazing volunteers that made this party happen, our DJs who played the best music (special thanks to Blow Pony’s DJ Jodi Bon Jodi who came up all the way from Portland to play for us), thanks to all of you who waited patiently in the line-up for almost an hour outside VIVO when we had reached capacity, and everyone of you who busted several amazing moves in those thrift-store spats, gowns, suspenders and other full-on fancy gear! Not to mention the $300 we raised for Raincity Housing!!! We could not have pulled it off without each and everyone of you, so thank you so much for supporting your local, volunteer-run, not-for-profit east van queer dance party!

On a not-so-fancy note, we did hear about a couple incidents of people having their wallets stolen. That is a terrible thing to have happen! Gaywads shalt not steal from other gaywads at a volunteer-run queer dance party, organized for all gaywads and friends alike! We will be looking into setting up a coat check for our parties in the future to prevent these types of scenarios. This will definitely require a lot more coordination and volunteer help during and after the party, so please let us know if you can help in any capacity.

We also did clean up quite a few booze bottles at the end of the night that we do not sell at the bar. Just a gentle reminder — bringing in your own alcohol violates our liquor licence and could get us into big trouble! We try to keep our alcohol prices low and affordable, so please refrain from bringing your own alcohol and continue supporting us so we can keep this party going!

We’ve uploaded some photos (at flickr) thanks to a fantastic volunteer that captured moments and outfits at the party. Check our facebook for a list of lost things we found. To all volunteers and DJs that have helped us out since the beginning of Prance: we will be announcing a special volunteer appreciation event fairly shortly, so stay tuned! In the meantime, stay safe, keep well, be nice to one another, and see you again at the next Prance in March!

In solidarity,
Prance
